We asked our guest blogger, Louise about Healthy meals for an expectant mum. She has given us some of her favourite recipes. Over to you Louise…

Considering how many foods you cannot eat whilst pregnant, there is still plenty of meals you can eat. It’s just important to do your research first.

I’m very much into Italian food and always have been. It’s important to keep a balanced diet. Despite being a fussy eater I am motivated to try new foods. This is so my baby can get used to a variety of food too. Homemade food is always healthier and I’ve been trying to include as many homemade meals into my lifestyle as possible.

Spaghetti Bolognese

To keep it healthy, I use wholewheat or brown spaghetti. I make tomato sauce using passata, herbs and garlic puree. I add some veggies which must include something green. Finally cheese on top.

Homemade Pizza

For the base, I use greek yoghurt and self-raising flour. You can get creative with toppings. My favourite toppings are rocket, halloumi and olives. Find the dough base recipe here

Sausage rolls

Sausage rolls are one of my favourites! I use ready-made puff pastry and roll up individual sausages in the puff pastry. Simply cut in between each sausage, add herbs, and cook. It’s delicious.

Mac and Cheese

I am a lover of mac and cheese, anyone who knows me knows that! However, I found a recipe that uses cauliflower as well as pasta. It’s not quite the same but it’s fun to mix it up occasionally, plus you can add a variety of cheeses to the mix. My personal recommendation is mature cheddar, red Leicester and some parmesan on top.

Salmon and Spaghetti

One thing I do miss is smoked salmon and one of my favourite dishes was spaghetti with a nice creamy cheese sauce, some greens and some lemon flavoured smoked salmon. I do however continue to make this but replace smoked salmon with a salmon fillet.
